Updated Solar System
I’ve replaced my homemade solar system with an ‘off the shelf’ product.
When I first setup my solar, I thought ‘rolling my own’ was the best choice, now I think an off the shelf system is best. The original system was a 56ah AGM lead acid battery and an inverter in a wooden box, with a folding solar panel with it’s own charge controller.
I bought an Anker 1,024wh power bank, and an Anker 100w folding solar panel. The power bank is lighter and longer lasting than the lead acid battery I was using, and the panel is also lighter.
My original system was quite durable — a good trait when you’re working outside in a parking lot. It has endured rain, heat, jostling. Cords stepped on, tripped on, pulled on. the panels have been pushed across the pavement by cars several time, even survived the day that a car actually drove over a corner of the poor defensless panel.
Let’s see how these new fellows do out in the Urban Jungle :)
